Are you passionate about understanding how infants and children learn and grow? Do you want to contribute to groundbreaking research in a supportive and dynamic environment? The Baby and Child Rebel Lab at UNLV is looking for motivated students to join our team as research assistants!

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a research assistant, you'll gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the research process, including:

Participant Recruitment & Scheduling:

Help us connect with families and organize study sessions.

Conducting Studies:

Assist in running our experiments and ensuring the smooth operation of each study.

Data Management:

Enter and analyze data, assess reliability, and maintain our participant and photo database.

Miscellaneous Tasks:

Depending on your interests and skills, you may also engage in video coding, SPSS data entry, or even greeting and communicating with families.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

After mastering the general lab tasks, you'll have the chance to expand your skills based on your interests. Whether you want to dive into data analysis, learn about study design, or acquire other research-related skills, we provide the training you need to grow.

TIME

COMMITMENT

We ask for a two-semester commitment from all new research assistants, as it generally takes 5-6 weeks to become fully trained. Your weekly hours are divided as follows:

  • Spring/Fall Semesters: 9 hours per week

  • Summer Semesters: 13.5 hours per week

 

The lab operates from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. Saturday shifts are crucial as many families can only participate on weekends. Your hours will be scheduled based on your availability, typically in 3-hour or 4.5-hour shifts.

COURSE CREDIT

OPPORTUNITY

Interested in earning course credit for your work? You can enroll in:

​

  • PSY 498 (Independent Research): Earn 3 credit hours while gaining hands-on research experience.

  • PSY 496 (Independent Study): Receive course credit and improve your research writing skills through a structured paper-writing process with feedback.

 

As part of these courses, you will write a research paper, with drafts of each section (Method, Introduction, Results & Discussion) reviewed by our team to help refine your professional writing skills.
